Shlomo Keshet, Owner of the Saboneto Factory

When you enter the Saboneto Factory, established by Shlomo Keshet, the calming aromas of natural soaps immediately fill your lungs. Here, natural soaps are made on an olive oil base, produced from olives that Shlomo grows himself in his nearby grove. Precise recipes using ancient methods without any chemicals are used and medicinal herbs grown in the garden or foraged from the surroundings are added, as well as various spices, seaweed and even goat’s milk, mud and Dead Sea minerals.

But Saboneto is first and foremost a social initiative, established to provide a place of employment for Shlomo’s son, Elnatan, who has Down’s Syndrome. Future plans include creating additional places of employment for special needs individuals from the region.

If you are on the way from the Dead Sea to Tel Aviv or from Jerusalem heading north, it’s worth your while to stop by the factory, located near the Alon Highway, and hear from Shlomo about the production process, touch the materials in the “Please Touch” corner and try out the different types of soap and smell the scents. In addition to soaps, you can also purchase various cosmetics and Dead Sea products on site.

Visits are free of charge but must be booked in advanced.
